Health & Safety Officer – Role Description

Purpose of the Role:

This position exists to champion the highest standards of health and safety across client sites. By proactively identifying hazards, supporting compliance, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement, the Health & Safety Officer plays a pivotal role in safeguarding wellbeing and strengthening client confidence in SWS’s, and their own, commitment, to safety excellence.

 

Role Description

  • Travel to client sites to conduct Health & Safety inspections and audits using a web-based application or tablet, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of health and safety policies and procedures for clients.
  • Offer guidance and support to clients on health and safety matters.
  • Deliver Toolbox Talks to clients when required.
  • Review existing Risk Assessments and Method Statements for clients, or create new “suitable and sufficient” RAMS (Risk Assessments & Method Statements) and CPPs (Construction Phase Plans) using approved templates.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current legislation and industry best practices.
  • Communicate effectively with SWS management and clients.
  • Encourage and promote a positive safety culture within both SWS and client organisations.

Possible Qualifications

  • TechIOSH or GradIOSH Membership Level or working towards this.
  • Graduate or student status with the ability and motivation to progress to these membership levels.
  • IOSH Managing Safely certification.
  • NEBOSH General Certificate.
  • NEBOSH Construction or Fire Certificate.

 

Personal Attributes

  • Competent in conducting site Health & Safety inspections.
  • IT literate and familiar with smart products and applications.
  • Possession of a valid driving licence and own transport.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills.
  • Own transport and hold full UK Driving License

 

Working Hours

This position may be available on either a full-time or part-time basis. It may also be suited to graduate candidates who are seeking a 6- or 12-month placement with the potential for ongoing employment. SWS is committed to offering flexible working arrangements, including a hybrid model, for suitable candidates. In essence, SWS is open to considering any form of employment if the candidate proves to be a good fit for the business. Various negotiable packages are available to accommodate individual needs.
